KARACHI: In a historic transfer on Friday, the Sindh Meeting unanimously handed the Sindh Students Union Invoice, 2019, with pupil organisations from throughout the province welcoming the event, with some expressing reservations over it.

It has been 38 years since former army ruler Common Zia-ul-Haq barred college students from assembling on college and school campuses to demand their rights.

PRSF expresses reservations

Quickly after the passage of the invoice, Progressive Students Federation (PRSF) Karachi President Waqas Aalam instructed Geo.television that till and except the Sindh authorities declares the election schedule, the organisation would contemplate it a “political tactic.”

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) spokesperson Engineer Usama Aqil stated his organisation welcomes the event and lauded the Sindh authorities for restoring the unions.

Peoples Students Federation (PSF) Common-Secretary Talal Chandio instructed Geo.television that the restoration of the union is a constructive growth for college students, as he thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for the transfer.

“Now that we have representation in the anti-harassment committees, we can make sure that our voice is heard and no injustice will be done with students,” Chandio added.

Alternatively, the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisations’ (APMSO) central cupboard member Sharjeel Baig careworn that it’s the authorities’s duty to make sure that the unions revive in order that college students can lastly get their rights.

“I hope that APMSO’s struggle for the revival of the students union will bear fruit,” he stated.
